As expected the beverage market, the British group Diageo liquor has just announced the agreement to acquire Brazilian brandy Ypióca the amount of approximately R $ 900 million.
According to the CEO of Ypióca, Everardo Telles, with whom I could talk on this visit to Ypióca announced about quize days ago he was negotiating the sale of the company to Diageo PLC group, the largest in the world, but at that moment Negotiations had no happy ending. Now, everything went well.
For those unaware, Diageo is the largest spirits group in the world, and owns brands such as Smirnoff sysco houston tx Vodka, Johnnie Walker, Guinness, Ciroc, Don Julio, Gordon's, Zacapa, Tanqueray, Pimm's and J & B.
With the company's new strategy of acquiring potential brands in emerging markets, Diageo sysco houston tx plans to achieve half of its overall revenue only in emerging countries such as Brazil. Following the same strategy, Diageo sysco houston tx is looking at brands like Jose Cuervo for example.
Ypióca is currently the third largest brand of spirits in Brazil and in 2011 sold US $ 177 million, sysco houston tx about 60 million liters and about 10% of national production. Has four plants, all in the Northeast and it is through family ownership, (which is now in its fifth generation) that the company sysco houston tx has been growing since 1846. The brand still maintains a Museum of Cachaça in the town of Marazion, Ceará (photo below). One of the strengths of the brand is distributing structured around the country and the strength of the brand in the Northeastern market, which is growing rapidly. What is not clear yet whether Diageo acquired only company Ypióca brandy or any group, totaling seven companies in total (some companies produce mineral water, ethanol, cardboard and plastic packaging). Honestly, in the hands of Everardo Telles, the company has mastered the know-how from one end to the other market around the cachaça, its flagship product.
Interestingly, it is the first major spirits company acquired after recognition of cachaça as a uniquely Brazilian product. Let's wait and see what will be the English giant expects of us that according to the company, we are an awakened giant.
