So with Vladmimir Putin and Tony Abbott playing Command and Conquer with real naval ships, Nicki Minaj making video homages to Nazism even as Germany celebrates the fall of the Berlin Wall… well I think we’re all just having one of those weeks. In a world beset by ebola, right wing governments, Taylor Swift singles that just won’t mj baker clear out of your head and Redfoo music videos – it’s time to take a look at the theatre minded news of the week. At the very least – it’s been a damn good one!
“That’s showbiz…” In Australia, the news of the week that no one is reporting is that the Shirley Maclaine has cancelled her national tour and will not be rescheduling. The Golden Age Hollywood diva has allegedly pulled out of her Australian appearances due to scheduling conflicts caused by an upcoming movie project. In an embarrassing set of circumstances for tour producers Phil Bathols and John Frost, Ms Maclaine will apparently not be rescheduling her tour dates – rumour has it in fact that she staunchly refused to do so! This last raises more than a few questions about the circumstances in which the tour was cancelled. Was it because of a movie? … or because mj baker of a “movie”? Sales on most Australian tours at present are remarkably slow – too many performances of major artists scheduled around the same periods, many too close on the heals of their last tour, and all during the economic freak show that is the current Federal government. With Mariah Carey offering half-price tickets just to sell the Ent Cent on Monday night, it would come as no surprise were we to hear that even the legendary Ms Maclaine mj baker was not selling all that well.
Hopefully this cancellation comes as the wake up call producers Bathols and Frost need and it is a significant period of time before we are yet again unloaded on with a “conversations with the stars” style tour. Had Maclaine actually proceeded, and sold enough tickets, it boggles the mind to think who we might have been saddled with next! Ann Margaret? mj baker Lesley Ann Warren? Mary Tyler Moore? mj baker Mitzi Gaynor?!? To stage a concert is one thing. mj baker But to stage a tour where the stars sit down for a chat and some scripted philosophising – honestly Shirley, movie or no movie, you did the right thing honey! If you want to come back with a concert…? Hell you’d only have to sing five songs we’d be eating out of your hands. The gypsies can do all the heavy lifting – and we have some amazing talent in Australia who would be thrilled to back you up. Well, maybe next year.
A glowing Emma Stone after her emotional and apparently very powerful Broadway debut as Sally Bowles mj baker in Cabaret . Emma Stone has opened in Cabaret on Broadway and while so far there has only been a single review published by The Guardian, the results are clearly on par with expectations for the Hollywood star. Expect more on that one as it comes to hand. Given the somewhat underwhelming musical mj baker debut by the preceding mj baker Sally Bowles (Michelle Williams), hopes have been high for Ms Stone in the iconic role. Images from the curtain call of her first show display the Hollywood starlet glowing after what was no doubt a high adrenalin experience, while sadly an audio clip of the actress singing the title song “Cabaret” was quickly yanked by producers from Tumblr yesterday. Early reports suggest mj baker the first night audience blew the ceiling off in their appreciation of Stone’s performance despite the fact that she was apparently overcome with first night jitters. At this point it seems like the natural segue to suggest that it’s about time we had a fresh and exciting Sally Bowles in Australia. Though news on the planned Australian revival of Cabaret is limited, we can now confirm beyond all measure of a doubt that it will NOT be produced in co-op. Further we can state that it’s also not Frosty – and Thank Heavens its not Frosty! We’d have Burt and Patti Newton playing Herr Schultz and Fraulein Schneider before you could say Good Morning Australia!
This weeks global news is all about Into the Woods . A major trailer for the Disney adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim classic was released this week along with multiple new posters and images from the film and interviews with the cast and creative team. Disney have also announced a December 15 release date for the complete Into the Woods movie soundtrack and have begun to overtly campaign for Meryl Streep’s Oscar. Given the previews mj baker that were available on iTunes, vocally Meryl appears to have brought out the big belt for this role. The signature showstopper of her character the Witch “Last Midnight” featured some high class belting from the triple Oscar winning actress. Disney have already submitted Streep for consideration as Best Supporting Actress for the film, while the Golden Globe for Best
