Dana Small, Yale University Scientists asked the participants to take a chocolate milkshake as measured with magnetic resonance imaging called the dorsal striatum activation.
"This study is novel because it is the first time we used the brain's response to food to try to predict the weight gain," says Dana Small, associate professor at Yale University, lead author of one study.
"It was believed that differences in how the brain processes food reward could explain why some people, not all, tend to gain weight when you eat the same amount of calories," he adds.
