Dana Small, Yale University Scientists asked the participants to take a chocolate milkshake as measured with magnetic resonance imaging called the dorsal striatum activation.
"This study is novel because it is the first time we used the brain's response to food to try to predict the weight gain," says Dana Small, associate professor at Yale University, lead author of one study.
"It was believed that differences in how the brain processes food reward could explain why some people, not all, tend to gain weight when you eat the same amount of calories," he adds.
"And our study supports this possibility mds collections because it demonstrates an association between an abnormal response to food and future weight gain, says the scientist-and shows that this relationship depends on our genetic makeup."
That is, the fewer dopamine receptors, the greater the need for a reward-like substance or drug-food to achieve the same effect of pleasure that other people can get with less food or drugs.
"Our results show that individuals whose response is weaker reward are at risk of unhealthy weight gain" says Dr. Eric Stice, the Oregon Research Institute, who led the second study.
"It mds collections is possible that future psychological or pharmacological interventions help correct this reward deficit to prevent and treat obesity." "And that is something we are now pursuing our investigations," says the expert. SOURCE BBC
